Effective July 1, 2009, Dr. Laurie Jacobs has been appointed Vice Chair for Clinical and Educational Programs for the Montefiore operations side of the Department of Medicine.
In her former role as Chief of the Division of Geriatrics, Dr. Jacobs distinguished herself by running an outstanding clinical and teaching division, which grew and developed successfully under her leadership. She has garnered significant extramural teaching grants, developed innovative educational programs (including Reynolds-Foundation-funded geriatrics training initiatives in virtually every area of medical education), and established strong working relationships with Montefiore administration over the years.
As Vice Chair for Clinical and Educational Programs, Dr. Jacobs will coordinate various teaching sites and budgets for students, house staff, and fellows; develop philanthropic initiatives for the Department; establish new CME programs; interview faculty recruits and facilitate offer letters; oversee Montefiore Medical Center internist credentialing; and work with the division chiefs to develop a pooled research coordinator system for clinical trials and to coordinate better department-based faculty development programs.
Dr. Amy Ehrlich as has been appointed interim chief, and a search for a new chief will commence shortly.
Dr. Philip Lief will continue as Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, dedicating intensive efforts to managing "the practice" (clinics and private practice), as well as burgeoning quality issues and many of the Montefiore North administrative affairs. Dr. Lief is also serving as Interim Housestaff Program Director.
