Department of Medicine Residency Training

Training Sites

Resident training primarily takes place on Montefiore's Moses and Einstein campuses.

Both hospitals are located in the Bronx, separated by a 20-minute drive through a pleasant residential area. Residents have access to shuttle bus service between the two campuses.

Montefiore's hospitals are among the premiere New York City teaching hospitals, with an extensive history of achievement in research and advancement of medicine.

Moses Campus

Montefiore Medical Center's Moses campus is located in a residential section of the northwest Bronx within blocks of Van Cortlandt Park on the border of Westchester County, one mile east of Riverdale and twelve miles from the heart of Manhattan. Nearby are the Bronx Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, Yankee Stadium, and the Lehman College Center for the Performing Arts.

The campus is immediately accessible to public transportation. Expressways to Manhattan and Westchester are only a few blocks away.

The major portion of the residency program takes place at the Moses campus.

A voluntary hospital providing a full range of patient services as well as a major teaching and research facility, the Moses campus was the original Montefiore Hospital, founded in 1884.

The Moses campus medical training program covers the following:

  • NW Medical Pavilion
  • a modern oncology unit with a special bone-marrow transplant facility
  • a hepatology/liver transplant unit
  • intensive coronary care unit
  • intermediate coronary care unit
  • medical intensive care unit

The NW Medical Pavilion is the central area for teaching General Internal Medicine.

In addition, residents participate in ambulatory care rotations at the Family Care Center on Kossuth Avenue, a full-time multi-specialty faculty practice physically connected to the hospital.

The Einstein campus is located in the northeast section of the Bronx in a quiet, low-density, residential area near City Island and a short drive from the Bronx Zoo. The campus is adjacent to a well-developed system of major highways, as well as to bus and subway transportation. It is within minutes of Westchester County, Connecticut, LaGuardia Airport, and the cultural and entertainment resources of Manhattan. The hospital is next to the basic science buildings of the medical school.

Weiler Hospital

Also known as the Einstein Division of Montefiore Medical Center, Weiler Hospital, a full-service voluntary hospital of over 400 beds, is located on the south side of the Einstein campus. The main teaching facility of the Einstein campus, Weiler Hospital serves a large population in the Bronx and lower Westchester.

The Weiler campus medical training program covers general medical beds and telemetry beds.

In addition, residents participate in ambulatory care rotations at Montefiore Medical Park, a full-time multi-specialty faculty practice located two blocks from the hospital.
