The primary training site is Montefiore Medical Center and its affiliated hospitals and clinics. All sites are located in the Bronx, with the exception of the Bioethics Seminar, which takes place in Manhattan.
The majority of the training time is spent at Montefiore. The population served is varied in terms of ethnicity and age, with almost equal numbers of white, African-American, and Hispanic patients. It is also varied socio-economically as the hospital draws from disadvantaged areas of the Bronx as well as the more affluent neighboring Westchester County.
As Montefiore is a tertiary care academic center, a variety of special services are provided including Heart, Kidney and Liver Transplantation, Stem Cell Transplantation, a full range of oncology treatments, and continuous EEG/TV monitoring for seizure disorders. Thus, trainees are exposed to a wide range of medical illnesses and their treatments.
