Sources of Grant Funding for Biomedical Research

The single largest source of funding for biomedical research and development in the U.S. is the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  However, NIH funding typically represents only 30-40% of the total.   Other sources include other federal agencies (e.g. CDC, Defense Dept.), voluntary health organizations (e.g. American Cancer Society), professional associations (e.g. American College of Cardiology) and private foundations (e.g. Charles A. Dana Foundation).

[Note: A collaboration (perhaps via sub-contract) with another investigator, at AECOM or elsewhere, is sometimes the most appropriate way of competing successfully for research funding.  Be realistic and creative.]
