U.S. News & World Report (via HealthDay) interviews bioethicist Tia Powell, M.D., about a new study that found advanced directives, also known as living wills, are very important in shaping the care that's provided to patients and reduces the cost of end-of-life care, which accounted for more than one-quarter of total Medicare spending last year. Dr. Powell is director of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Bioethics and the Einstein-Cardozo Master of Science in Bioethics program. (Sunday, October 02, 2011)

 

ABC News interviews Tia Powell, M.D., about concerns that H1N1 could strain intensive-care unit resources this winter. A new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that the strain is already being felt at intensive-care units in Canada and Mexico.
