Einstein in the News

ABC News (via MedPage Today) features comments by Shlomo Shinnar, M.D., Ph.D., in an article on the death of R&B icon Teena Marie, whose death might have been caused by a grand mal seizure. Dr. Shinnar notes that the risk of convulsions for an epileptic patient increases when coming off seizure control medication. The story also features Dr. Shinnar's recent study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, that found patients diagnosed with epilepsy as children have higher rates of death than the general population. Dr. Shinnar is professor in the Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology and of pediatrics and of epidemiology & population health at Einstein, and director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Management Center at Montefiore Medical Center.
