Robert Marion, M.D. Appointed Director of Einstein's Children's Evaluation & Rehabilitation Center

January 19, 2007 - (BRONX, NY) - Dr. Robert Marion has been named Director of the Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC) at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.

"Dr. Marion brings exceptional expertise in developmental pediatrics, clinical human genetics and medical education to this important leadership position. In addition, he will be developing an important new clinical and translational research program within CERC that will significantly broaden the scope of care to the families that are served at the Center" said Dr. Allen M. Spiegel, The Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Dean of the medical school.

Dr. Marion is widely renowned as the pediatrician to the Aguirre twins, Clarence and Carl, who were co-joined at birth and separated in a series of successful, landmark operations at Montefiore Medical Center, Einstein's University Hospital and academic medical center. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Marion served as chief of the division of pediatric genetics at Einstein and Montefiore.

Dr. Marion, professor of pediatrics and of obstetrics & gynecology and women's health, is a long-standing member of the Einstein community. He earned his M.D. degree from Einstein in 1979, where he also completed his residency in pediatrics, a fellowship in human genetics and training in genetic counseling. He joined the Einstein faculty in 1984 and became a full professor in 1994.

Dr. Marion also serves on the adjunct faculty in the graduate program in human genetics at Sarah Lawrence College. He is the author of six published books, including The Intern Blues and Learning to Play God: The Coming of Age of a Young Doctor. He has also authored 60 research papers in peer-reviewed journals. At Einstein, he received the Sam Rosen Award for Outstanding Teaching and the Lewis M. Fraad Award for excellence in residency education.

Dr. Marion is a resident of Mamaroneck, New York.
