Einstein-Montefiore Infectious Diseases Fellowship

Overview
A joint fellowship program of Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine; the largest in the New York City metropolitan area and one of the most extensive in the United States.

Educational Objectives
Detailed training areas through which the program’s educational objectives are attained.

Clinical Training
Inpatient consultation services, ambulatory care, clinical electives.

Training Sites
Montefiore Medical Center (East and West Campuses) and Jacobi Medical Center: broad experience in infectious diseases and complications in a variety of patient populations.

Teaching Responsibilities
Required teaching of medical students and housestaff, participation in the Infectious Diseases Microbiology course and presentation at weekly case conferences and Journal Club.

Research
All fellows participate in one or more research projects during second and later years.

Meetings
Monthly Infection Control meetings, biweekly Antibiotic Subcommittee meetings.

Conferences and Didactic Courses
Required, regularly scheduled formal seminars and sessions.

Faculty
Faculty listing: more than 70 physician and non-physician scientists.

Microbiology Laboratory Rotations
Six weeks of the first year in Montefiore's diagnostic Microbiology Laboratory and Virology Laboratory and Jacobi's Parasitology Clinic; option for an elective month in the diagnostic Microbiology Laboratory (second year).

1970 to present: includes 2007 and 2009 fellows in training.
