The Department of Medicine provides several 1-year positions for applicants who need preparation in general medicine before entering a specialty residency such as psychiatry, neurology, dermatology or radiology.
The preliminary internship is almost identical to year 1 of the categorical internship. Preliminary interns are members of one of the medical firms and have a balanced curriculum including general medicine wards, intensive care, subspecialty emergency wards, medicine and ambulatory care (one month).
Rotations
- General Medicine Wards: 5 months
- MICU: .5 month
- CCU/Cardiology: 1 month
- Night Float: .5 month
- Oncology or Pulmonary: 1 month
- Emergency Room/Clinic: 1 month
- Ambulatory Care Rotation: 2 months
- Vacation: 1 month
