Einstein-Montefiore Dermatology Residency Training Program
The Einstein-Montefiore Division of Dermatology offers a 3-year dermatology residency training program leading to eligibility for certification by the American Board of Dermatology.
Candidates for certification are required to have a total of 4 years of postgraduate training including 1 year of post-graduate training in 1 of the following broad-based programs in the United States accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or a similar program in Canada accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada: a transitional year, or a first-year residency in internal medicine, general surgery, family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, or pediatrics.
Training Sites
Residents gain a diverse perspective on cutaneous disorders and treatments in both adults and children through clinical rotations at Einstein hospitals and affiliates.

Rotations
During the 3-year program, residents rotate through Einstein hospitals and affiliates, spending time in their ambulatory clinics as well as in specialty clinics. Full time faculty supervise residents in their clinical activities. Specialty clinics are organized to deal with specific disease states and populations:
- Surgery
- HIV
- Pediatrics
- Phototherapy
Additionally, residents and staff attendings provide care to inpatients with dermatological disorders who are hospitalized at each institution via the consult services.
Specialty Training
- Dermatopathology
Training in dermatopathology is provided through a joint effort of the Divison of Dermatology and Department of Pathology. The program offers residents a dedicated dermatopathology experience during their dermatology training. Additional dermatopathology training is obtained through weekly clinico-pathological conferences, lecture series, dermatopathology book review, and slide review.
- Dermatologic Surgery
Training in dermatologic surgery is provided through specialty electives and weekly surgical clinics at both Montefiore and Jacobi. The program offers residents a dedicated dermatologic surgery experience which includes a formal lecture series and the opportunity to participate in Mohs' and Laser cases via the Cosmetic and Procedural Faculty Practice.
- Research
The Einstein-Montefiore Division of Dermatology is strongly interested in cultivating academic dermatologists and, in particular, in encouraging trainees to undertake careers which include clinical or laboratory research. The division now offers a physician-scientist 2+2 track coupling intensive, diverse clinical training with exciting translational bench research opportunities. The research experience may take place in the Division of Dermatology under a faculty preceptor or may include time spent in other basic science departments at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
The division also offers a unique clinical research experience through the Einstein-Montefiore Dermatopharmacology Fellowship Program, providing the necessary skills and training to undertake clinical trials from formulating the proposal to implementing the study.

All Albert Einstein Dermatology Residency Program positions are granted through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).
