1.    Solicit or obtain manuscript assigned by Associate Editor from Editorial Assistant.

2.    Read assigned manuscript (allow one week).

A.  Assess appropriateness for The Einstein Quarterly Journal of Biology and Medicine. Check the format of all references tables, and figures. Email general critique of manuscript to Editorial Assistant. Comments will be forwarded directly to the author along with the comments the Faculty Reviewer.
B.   Identify candidate Faculty Reviewers (impartial with expertise in appropriate field).
C.  Obtain approval of candidate Faculty Reviewers from the Associate Editor.
D.  Obtain confirmation for ONE Faculty Reviewer to review the manuscript.
E.   Contact Editorial Assistant with the name of Faculty Reviewer, mailing and contact information of the Faculty Reviewer, and the timetable for the review (normally three weeks or less).
F.   Confirm the receipt of the manuscript by the Faculty Reviewer.

3.    Keep review on schedule (remind your reviewer in one week intervals; try to stick to a three week deadline).

4.    Confirm receipt of reviewed manuscript by Editorial Assistant.

5.    Determine the status (e.g., Accepted, Accepted with Minor Revisions, Accepted with Major Revisions, or Rejected) of the assigned manuscript and request copy of Faculty Reviewer’s comments from Editorial Assistant.

6.    After the proper time has elapsed, insure that the Editorial Assistant has received the revised manuscript. If the article has not been received, please remind the author of the article that the revisions are due.

7.    Obtain revised manuscript from Editorial Assistant after designated time has elapsed.

8.    Insure that the author has satisfied the comments of the Faculty Reviewer and edit the revised manuscript for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style according to the Instructions for Authors (Appendix I) and the Chicago Manual of Style or the Council of Biology Editors Manual (allow two weeks).

9.    Identify a Faculty Editor to edit revised manuscript.

10.  Obtain approval of candidate Faculty Editor from the Associate Editor.

11.  Save a copy of the revised manuscript with your comments.

12.  Send revised manuscript with your comments to Faculty Editor.

13.  Faculty Editor will edit revised manuscript for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style according to the Instructions for Authors (Appendix I) and the Chicago Manual of Style or the Council of Biology Editors Manual (allow one week).

14.   Obtain edited manuscript from Faculty Editor after designated time has elapsed.

15.   Save a copy of the edited manuscript with the Faculty Editor’s comments.

16.   Send edited manuscript with Faculty Editor’s comments to the appropriate Associate Editor.

17.   Associate Editor will edit the manuscript for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style according to the Instructions for Authors (Appendix I) and the Chicago Manual of Style or the Council of Biology Editors Manual  (allow one week).

18.   Associate Editor or Faculty Editor will meet with Student Editor (if necessary) and provide feedback with respect to editorial skills and summarize the comments of both the Associate Editor and the Faculty Editor.

19.   Write a short summary (for the Cover-to-Cover) of the manuscript detailing the main points and significance of the article to the general medical scientific reader.

20.   Have Associate Editor send edited manuscript with Student, Faculty, and Associate Editor input as well as your Cover-to-Cover piece to Editorial Assistant.

21.   Confirm receipt of edited manuscript and your Cover-to-Cover piece with Editorial Assistant.

22.   Notify Editor-in-Chief that the revised manuscript has been completed the Student Editing process and received by Editorial Assistant.

23.   Editor-in-Chief will edit the manuscript for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style according to the Instructions for Authors (Appendix I) and the Chicago Manual of Style or the Council of Biology Editors Manual (allow one week).

24.   Confirm the completion of the editing process and inquire about potential publication dates.
