UJA-Federation of New York's Montefiore Medical Center & Albert Einstein College of Medicine Division honored Dr. Laurie Jacobs, professor and vice chair of medicine at Einstein and Montefiore, at its annual reception, held this year at Montefiore Medical Center.
Dr. Victor Schuster, professor and chair of medicine at Montefiore and Einstein, presented Dr. Jacobs with her award, which recognized her scientific achievements and passionate commitment to improving the lives of the elderly.
Dr. Jacobs is a geriatrician overseeing Montefiore's clinical programs in internal medicine and its sub-specialties, who has received numerous awards for her contributions in medical education focusing on the care of older adults. She has developed and enhanced clinical programs across the continuum of care, including a home-visiting program and an elder-abuse consultation service. Dr. Jacobs also serves on the boards of Montefiore's Pioneer Accountable Care Organization and the American Geriatrics Society, and she is on the editorial advisory board of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. A longtime supporter of UJA-Federation, Dr. Jacobs led its initiative at Montefiore on Educating Physicians about Elder Abuse.
The reception also featured guest speaker Micah Halpern, political commentator, columnist, and author, who spoke on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and turmoil in the Middle East. Drs. Shalom Kalnicki, and Arnold Wilson served as campaign chairs, while Donald Ashkenase and Drs. Allan Brook, Edward Burns and Susan Klugman served as vice chairs.
