The College of Medicine recently welcomed Dr. Terence Ma as assistant dean for educational informatics. In this capacity, Dr. Ma oversees the office of educational informatics (OEI), as well as the educational resources within the office of medical education.
The OEI works closely with both students and faculty to integrate technology into the classroom and the curriculum, and to develop new instructional approaches that enhance the connection between formal and hands-on knowledge. The OEI is also responsible for the development and management of eMED, Einstein's learning and curriculum management system which features automatic calendar and course content syncing to mobile devices used by both students and staff.
Dr. Ma comes to Einstein from California Northstate University College of Medicine, where he served as associate dean for accreditation, assessment and administration. For the past two decades he has focused on technology in health sciences education, including developing one of the first interactive websites for teaching anatomy to dental students. He also built technology infrastructure at Touro University Nevada, where he led the development of an institutional, faculty-led IT governance structure. In addition, Dr. Ma is a frequently sought presenter at national and regional conferences on educational technology, curriculum management and theoretical constructs for the tracking of learner outcomes.
Dr. Ma earned his bachelor’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University and his Ph.D. in anatomy from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his postdoctoral training at the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
