On Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, the College of Medicine announced "The Campaign to Transform Einstein." With a working minimum goal of $500 million, the campaign is already the most ambitious and successful in Einstein's history, and will focus philanthropic support on several top priorities, including continuing to revitalize the Jack and Pearl Resnick Campus; advancing key areas of biomedical research while recruiting and retaining the best talent; and enhancing education and training for the next generation of physicians and scientists.
During the festivities, Dr. Allen M. Spiegel, the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Dean at Einstein, made public an historic gift of more than $160 million bequeathed by Muriel L. Block, who named the College of Medicine as the remainder beneficiary of her estate. In addition to noting Mrs. Block's extraordinary generosity, Dean Spiegel thanked the thousands of donors who have provided leading gifts that have helped launch the campaign, which has already raised more than $420 million, and is poised to surpass its minimum goal in the months to come.
The evening also offered the opportunity to recognize 22 faculty members who were invested as chairs and scholars or appointed directors of centers at Einstein, 4 faculty members who received tenure, and 8 alumni who achieved alumni leadership (Century Award, Einstein Circle and Dean's Club) status.
