Class of 2015 Offers Their Gratitude

Recently, Einstein's Class of 2015 conducted a Convocation of Thanks to honor the individuals who had donated their bodies to science, serving as the medical students' silent teachers during their gross anatomy course. The hands-on course informally marks the students’ entry into the medical profession, providing the opportunity for them to gain greater understanding of the human body, its organs and systems.

Gathered in Lubin Dining Hall, the class conducted a program of their own devising that included spoken tributes, as well as those set to music and dance. The students also took the opportunity to recognize their instructors: Drs. Todd Olson, director of Einstein’s anatomy and embryology course for more than 20 years, and Sherry Downie, associate professor of clinical anatomy & structural biology.

A highlight was the traditional candle-lighting ceremony during which the medical students light a candle representing each of the cadavers, who were recognized by the recitation of their first names. In addition, the Einstein Jazz Ensemble offered opening and closing musical performances.
