Earlier this spring, Einstein hosted its ninth annual Davidoff Education Day at the Price Center/Block Research Pavilion. The focus of the day was: “Social Media in Medical Education: The Promise and the Perils.” The event’s keynotes were prominent social media professionals and physicians—pathologist Kent Bottles, M.D., and internist Katherine Chretien, M.D, who addressed the spillover crowd of 102 Einstein faculty members, detailing best practices and notable cautions.
Morning sessions featured workshops on how to use social media in undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education; how to bridge the generation gap in social media in medical education and understanding social media for the curious novice. Following the workshops, attendees were given a hands-on, up-close look at several social media platforms They also had the chance to ask questions of the keynote presenters as well as of Paul Moniz, David Flores and Carla Berger from the department of communications and public affairs, and Julia Hess from the department of medicine.
The day was a success, inspiring several participants to contribute to Einstein’s Doctor’s Tablet blog and to participate in other social media platforms. The event, which is sponsored each year by the Education & Faculty Support Committee and the office of faculty development, honors Dr. Leo Davidoff, the first chair of neurological surgery at Einstein.
