CFAR Symposium

On March 19, 2012 the Einstein-Montefiore Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), directed by Dr. Harris Goldstein, conducted a research symposium to highlight the innovative basic science, translational and clinical AIDS-related research at Einstein and Montefiore that is funded by CFAR pilot grants. The majority of the CFAR-funded speakers were junior faculty members who have been recruited to Einstein during the past five years.

The symposium was organized by Dr. Vinayaka Prasad, director of the CFAR developmental core, who administers the CFAR pilot projects program. It highlighted the fact that Einstein faculty members are engaged in priority AIDS research projects in areas that are both translational and novel.

The presentations were organized into four thematic sessions: HIV Restriction & Neutralization, which was chaired by Dr. Steven Porcelli and featured presentations by Drs. Jonathan Lai, Felipe Diaz-Griffero and Rebecca Madan; Evaluating Interventions to Enhance HIV Outcomes, chaired by Dr. Julia Arnsten with talks by Drs. Elizabeth Kiefer and Shadi Nahvi; HIV/AIDS Associated Malignancies, chaired by Dr. Mark Einstein with talks by Drs. Kathryn Anastos, Howard Strickler and Hilda Ye and Cofactors Affecting Neurological Disease in HIV/AIDS, which was chaired by Dr. Joshua Nosanchuk with presentations by Drs. Nosunchuk and Hyeon-Sook Suh.
