FAMILY DAY//About Our Honorary Chairperson
Christie Brinkley is one of the most successful and recognizable models worldwide. A Ford model for over 30 years, her image has graced more than 500 magazine covers. She is also an accomplished artist, writer, photographer, designer, actress, philanthropist, environmentalist, and political activist.
Christie’s charity work has been extensive. She has been an active member and dedicated supporter/activist for many organizations, including UNICEF’s Art and Entertainment Support Committee, Handgun Control, Ovarian Cancer, Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Cousteau Society, Southern Poverty Law, The Wilderness Society, and stopglobalwarming.org. The breadth and scope of these philanthropic efforts led the Women’s Division at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University to present Christie with its Spirit of Achievement Award in 2003. This is the ninth year that she is serving as honorary chair of the Women’s Division annual Family Day in the Hamptons, for which the current aim is to raise money to support the programs and research at Einstein’s Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center, while also raising greater awareness of children’s developmental disorders and learning disabilities.
Additionally, Christie serves on the Board of Directors of STAR (Standing for Truth about Radiation), through which she has served as a spokesperson, alerting parents to the dangers that nuclear power plants have on children. Her outreach on behalf of STAR includes an appearance before a Senate subcommittee hearing on the negative efforts of the nuclear industry on families living near reactors. In addition to raising awareness of this serious issue, she has helped raise more than $500,000 for STAR and has added her voice to those calling for nuclear security to be a top national priority. Christie has also been featured in numerous public service announcements benefiting children, the environment and breast cancer awareness.
In addition to her Spirit of Achievement Award from Einstein, Christie has received numerous awards, including a humanitarian award from the March of Dimes, a “Mother of the Year” award from the National Mother’s Day committee, a “Merit Award” for her work with the USO, and recognition as one of “Americas Mothers and Shakers” in Redbook Magazine for her involvement in STAR.
Christie Brinkley serves as an event co-chair with Alison Brettschneider, Mindy Feinberg, Jackie Harris Hochberg, Bari Katz and Amanda Poses.
