Dr. Pessin directs Einstein’s Diabetes Research Center, one of only sixteen NIH-funded diabetes centers of its kind in the country. He guides the research of more than 90 scientists investigating type 1 (formerly juvenile) and type 2 (formerly adult-onset) diabetes. The center also includes training programs and community-based activities in the Bronx. An expert in diabetes prevention, Dr. Crandall is a principal investigator in the NIH-funded Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study, which showed that sustaining weight loss or taking an anti-diabetic drug can stave off type 2 diabetes in people at high risk for the disease. The American Diabetes Association recently funded Dr. Crandall to study whether the wine ingredient resveratrol can prevent diabetes in patients with prediabetes. read more...
