Dr. Fleischer is a nationally recognized authority in diabetes treatment and research, with more than four decades of experience in the field. In the 1970s, he founded the NIH-funded Einstein’s Diabetes Research Center, which was among the first NIH-supported diabetes centers in the country. Today, it is one of only two such Centers in New York and one of only a dozen nationwide.
Dr. Fleischer’s research focuses on type 1 diabetes and how the body regulates insulin production and secretion. He is also studying the use of pancreatic beta-cell transplants as a treatment. Dr. Fleischer serves as chief of the division of endocrinology at Einstein and Montefiore Medical Center
