High-field magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) coupled with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to monitor in vivo human physiology noninvasively. The studies include: 1) the metabolic roles of myocellular, visceral and hepatic lipids in insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity; 2) liver glycogen metabolism during hypolycemia in humans.
