I am the Director of the Behavioral Consultation Team (Pediatric Consulation Liaison Service) at the Children's Hospital at montefiore and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who is extremely interested in furthering consultation-liaison psychiatry and pediatric psychology in meeting the psychosocial needs of children and adolescents with medical problems and their families. Consultation Liaison Psychiatry traditionally follows a medical model whereby the consultant sees the child and adolescent with a medical illmess who is hospitalized for a wide array of referral questions, including differential diagnosis of organic versus psychogenic contributors to symptom presentation, adherence problems to medications and treatment, and coping with chronic illness. i am interested in studying treatment non-adherence and how that impacts the children and adolescents' quality of life outside the hospital and what psychiatry and pyschology can do to promote treatment adherence here at CHAM. Outpatient Support Groups in many subspecialties such as rheumatology, Endocrine, Renal, Onocology, Adolescent Medicine were developed by the Behavioral Consultation team to specifically address non-adherence by allowing them to process their feelings while promoting participation in their care, and to help provide an outlet to children and adolescents with medical education.
