Professional Interests

Dr. Thomas Knight Aldrich has extensive experience with clinical research focused on pulmonary function testing, respiratory muscle function, Sickle Cell lung disease, and respiratory and other consequences of World Trade Center exposure.

Dr. Aldrich chairs New York State's September 11th Workers Protection Task Force, and is a member of the Mayor's World Trade Center Medical Working Group, the CDC/NIOSH World Trade Center Health Program's Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee, and FDNY's WTC Scientific Advisory Committee.

Dr. Aldrich is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Pulmonary/Critical Care Training Program at Einstein, and Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory at Montefiore Medical Center (Moses Division).

Current Projects

  • Serial pulmonary function testing in FDNY personnel
  • New measurements of airways obstruction when effort is not optimal
  • Consequences of Vitamin D supplementation in Sarcoidosis

Media Coverage

The Associated Press interviews Dr. David Prezant, senior author, and Dr. Thomas Aldrich, lead author, on their study that investigates the lung health of 9/11 rescue workers. The research, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, was led by Einstein and Montefiore Medical Center, in collaboration with the Fire Department of New York City.
