Michal L. Melamed, M.D.

Associate Professor, Department of Medicine (Nephrology)

Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology & Population Health

Areas of Research: Risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and acute kidney injury (AKI); racial disparities in kidney disease; clinical trials of bicarbonate therapy, vitamin D, group care; vitamin D deficiency and outcomes

Professional Interests

Dr. Michal Melamed's research interests include the epidemiology of and ethnic and racial disparities in chronic kidney disease and its complications, the epidemiology and health consequences of vitamin D deficiency and acute kidney injury. She trained at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine for medical school, residency, and fellowship. Additionally, she completed a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health during her fellowship.

Dr. Melamed is currently conducting NIH-funded research on alkali therapy in kidney disease and the use of group-based care in CKD. Recent publications can be found on PubMed and include the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Archives of Internal Medicine, the American Journal of Kidney Disease, and Kidney International.
