Welcome to The Department of Environmental Health and SafetySafety is Everyone's Responsibility
Yeshiva University is a diversified University consisting of a Medical School, Law School, Graduate Schools, Undergraduate Schools, and two High Schools. In addition, the University operates a number of clinical facilities and associated programs. The Department of Environmental Health and Safety The Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) has been created to assist in conjunction with a variety of Faculty Safety Committees in providing for the health and safety of our workers, students, and visitors; protecting the environment from any potentially harmful effects caused by University activities; allowing University activities to proceed in a safe manner; managing the University's hazardous waste and ensuring regulatory compliance with the numerous regulatory agencies which may have an impact on the activities of the University. With the support of University Administration and the supervision of the five faculty safety committees, EH&S moves towards the fulfillment of its goals. The diversity of operations of the University requires a health and safety program this is capable of managing a wide range of occupational and environmental concerns. Our EH&S program is based on the Industrial Hygiene principles of identification, evaluation, and control and/or elimination of hazards in the workplace. These principles are the basis of our worker training and awareness programs that strive to foster the attitude that the Yeshiva Community can take action to eliminate hazards from the workplace and promote a healthful and safe work environment. EH&S is currently a twelve member department consisting of a Chief Safety Officer, Laboratory/Biosafety Officer, Fire Safety Officer, Industrial Hygienist, Radiation Safety Officer, Safety Specialist, two Safety Technicians, an Office Coordinator and three Supporting Secretaries. Our Safety Officers, through training and experience are capable of assisting the University in safely managing the variety of hazards and potentially adverse situations associated with University activities. Come meet our Safety Officers. The success of EH&S requires a dynamic cooperative interaction between institutional administration, faculty safety committees, employees, students, faculty, EH&S, and the various regulatory agencies. Welcome to our Web Site. We encourage your comments and dialogue.
