There are 6 officer positions within the GSC: Two Co-chairs, Secretary, Treasurer and two Event Managers. These officers, along with Student Representatives form the core team within the GSC and as such, work together to coordinate the GSC's efforts throughout the year. Detailed descriptions of the roles and responsibilities of the GSC officers and student representatives are provided below.
Will oversee the operations fo the Council as a whole including the social events and advocacy issues of the GSC. Will make sure the other officers are aware of issues and complaints that they are responsible for. Will facilitate the officers in carrying out their elected positions. Will run monthly Executive Council meetings and email out information to the GSC. Will propose new initiatives and advocacy topics that will help improve academic, residential and social life at AECOM. Must attend student council budget night.
Will ensure effective management and communication of information within the GSC and with the wider community and manage GSC archive of information. Will type up minutes of the GSC meetings and agendas, and work with the GSC Webmaster to oversee the printed and electronic communication. Will coordinate the meeting room. Will make sure the Co-Chairs order the pizza!
Will devise balances and monitor the annual GSC budget and expenditures for GSC events. Will collect receipts being submitted for reimbursement and submit them to Dr. Lazar’s office. Must attend student council budget night.EVENT MANAGERS:
Will run the social events of the GSC, and will form their own committees to assist them. Will make sure treasurer receives all receipts for reimbursement.
QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE REPS:
Advocate for issues affecting everyday life for all students (MD and PHD) as well as postdocs (health/dental/vision insurance, housing, parking, cafeteria/coffee shops, gym, transportation. etc) **For Housing Issues Students will follow this chain of command:**
1. If it is your apartment only, fill out a work order. If it is water, elevator, heat/AC related, call engineering at 718-430-3000.2. If it is not resolved in a timely manner, contact the Housing Manager3. If you haven't heard back within a *reasonable* amount of time or are unsatisfied with the result, contact Quality of Life Reps.
GRADUATE DIVISION REPS:
Will advocate for issues affecting only the students of the graduate program (policies, thesis defense, qual, stipends, classes, etc) at Graduate Committee meetings of the graduate division.
STUDENT COUNCIL REPS:
Will advocate for issues affecting quality of life and are in charge of bridging the MD and PHD programs in student acitivities (clubs, etc).
1ST YEAR REPS:
Will report problems affecting the first year students to the GSC.
COUNCIL OF COURSE LEADERS REPS:
Represent students' opinions with regard to curriculum and class design at CCL meetings.
Attend the Senate meetings and represent the opinions of the students for the record as well as vote on their behalf.
Will design the GSC website with help from the IT Department. Will post the GSC minutes in a password protected area within the GSC site. Will maintain & update the GSC website as needed.
