2015 Incoming PhD Class  

Below is a description of the incoming graduate students for the 2015 PhD class. 


Prior Research Experience

  • 100% have had a sustained research experience in a scientific laboratory
  • 57% have published a scientific paper in a peer reviewed journal
  • 65% have presented their work at a scientific meeting
  • 26% have also spent a summer in a research program


  • 23 different colleges are represented by the incoming PhD Class. Students come from throughout the United States having attended large research universities, and small liberal arts colleges
  • Undergraduate majors: Biology, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Genetics, and Learning Sciences 
  • 82% have a Bachelor of Science degree; 18% have a Bachelor of Arts degree
  • 26% have a Master’s degree




  • Demographics- 48% Female, 52% Male

  • Underrepresented minorities - 18% of individuals have self-identified as belonging to groups traditionally underrepresented

  • U.S. students are coming from California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Washington 

  • International students - students come to Einstein from countries around the world. This year's class includes students from China, Columbia, India, Lebanon, and Nicaragua
