Profile of the Class of 2023

  • There are 183 students in the first-year class. 8088 individuals applied for entrance and 1,030 were interviewed.
  • 98 (54%) are women. 21 (12%) self-described as identifying with groups underrepresented in medicine. 15 (8%) are M.D./Ph.D. students. 96 (53%) students speak Spanish.
  • 11 students participated in an Einstein Pipeline Program as undergraduates.
  • 21–35 is the age range; 39 (21%) are over the age of 25 (6 students are over the age of 30); and 23 is the average age.
  • 34 (19%) students were born outside the United States in countries that include Belgium, Cameroon, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, France, India, Iran, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, the Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Philippines, and the Russian Federation.
  • 85 colleges are represented. Most highly represented with 3 or more students are Boston College, the City University of New York, Columbia, Cornell, Emory, Fordham, Johns Hopkins, New York University, Northwestern, Princeton, Rutgers, the State University of New York, the University of California, the University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Rochester, Washington University, and Yeshiva University.
  • 19 states are represented. 86 (47%) are residents of the state of New York; 5 were born in the Bronx.
  • 76 have a bachelor of arts; 91 have a bachelor of science; 5 have an “other” bachelor’s degree; 8 have a master’s degree; and, 3 have a doctoral degree in science.
  • 71 (39%) have a non-science major
  • At least 25% of the class are musicians; vocalists and/or dancers.
  • 22 are certified EMTs.
