Salary & Benefits

PGY V salary for the 2018-19 academic year will be $70,000. In addition, fellows receive a daily food allowance while on duty. As employees of Montefiore Medical Center, fellows received a generous benefit package, including a choice of health insurance plans, four weeks vacation, and paid holidays.

In addition to 4 weeks of vacation annually, residents may, with prior approval of the Director of Residency Training, attend 5 days of conference meetings each year.

Montefiore provides medical coverage to help you pay for most types of health care expenses that you and your eligible family members may incur. Your medical choices cover a variety of medical services and supplies in and out of the hospital. As an eligible House Staff Officer, you can select from among three separate options, or a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) if available in your area, or you can elect no coverage.

 

Insurance Options

  • MontePrime - You must use a MontePrime physician at a Montefiore facility to receive benefits (except in a bona fide emergency). The plan pays 100% of in-network covered expenses. You have no deductibles or copayments. This option provides for 20 visits per year of outpatient mental health treatment, including psychotherapy and/or medication management.
  • Catastrophic - You can use any physician or facility you wish. Benefits are based on reasonable and customary limits and are subject to deductibles and coinsurance, which you must pay out of your own pocket.
  • MonteCare - You can use either in-network or out-of-network providers. Plan benefits for in-network care are higher than for out-of-network care, and there are no deductibles to pay. Out-of-network benefits are based on reasonable and customary limits and are subject to deductibles and coinsurance, which you must pay out of your own pocket.
  • Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) - Generally provide benefits for in-network care only.

Montefiore provides dental coverage to help you pay for covered dental services. As a House Staff Officer, you have four dental options from which you can choose, or you can elect no coverage. Each plan offers varying amounts of coverage, deductibles, and reimburstments.

Dependent care and health care reimbursement accounts are available to pay for unreimbursed health care expenses or eligible child care expenses.

Group term life insurance is in effect. If you elect life insurance, then you will automatically have Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance. Disability insurance is available as well.

Housestaff have the option of participating in the Personal Voluntary Tax Deferred Annuity Plan to begin saving for retirement.

If you commute to work by mass transit you are eligible to participate in the tax advantaged, Transportation Reimbursement Incentive Program.

Montefiore Medical Center provides housestaff with a daily meal allowance while on duty. Housestaff also receive an annual book allowance of $500 to be used towards the purchase of medical textbooks or educational software.

Library Resources

  • 24-hour access to on-line journals and periodicals is available to the Einstein Community through the library's website.
  • The Montefiore Medical Library has 24-hour access to online periodicals and journals and computerized databases for literature review through the Montefiore intranet service.

Program Requirements

Applicants must have an MD or DO degree and must have completed an ACGME approved American or Canadian general psychiatry residency. If not US residents, applicants must have a J1 or H1 visa. Applicants applying for the Child Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship must have completed Child Psychiatry training in addition to meeting the requirements above. Copies of diplomas, proof of completion of the 3 step USMLE/COMLEX and ECFMG, if applicable, and three letters of recommendations, including one from the Director of Residency Training, must be submitted along with the application and the candidate’s CV. Successful applicants will be invited for an interview.
