Unique opportunities abound in Clinical and Experimental Pathology at the Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Our mission is to deliver the highest quality of medical care through the use of state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures and the translation of new knowledge into the practice of Pathology.

The Department of Pathology is a leader in medical, resident and graduate education. The department is home to approximately 20 residents, 8 clinical fellows, 15 postdoctoral scholars, and 15 graduate students from various Ph.D. programs.  Our faculty members receive substantial federal funding to conduct basic, translational, and clinical research in the mechanisms of disease. Our major programs include: Genomics and Cancer Biology, Immunopathology, Infectious Disease and Neuropathology.

Montefiore is an integrated medical system and was the best performing Pioneer ACO in 2012. Pathology clinical services are provided using a service line model. We performed over 11 million tests in 2013, providing services to diverse settings throughout the Bronx and lower Westchester County, including acute care academic medical centers, large medical groups, schools, shelters, nursing homes, hospices, emergency departments and solo practitioners.
