Studie of the composition, formation and function of polar tube of Microsporodia- a parasitic protist: (1) characterization of the important functional elements of the major polar tube protein [PTP] by analysis of the conserved structural motifs of PTP in different microsporidia as well as characterize the importance of these motifs in PTP function; (2) characterization of the polar tube associated proteins [PTAPs] of Enc. hellem, their interaction with PTP and their potential role as accessory proteins in polar tube formation; and (3) characterization of the function of PTP in the assembly and polymerization events that occur during formation of the polar tube.
