Xin Zheng, Ph.D.
Professional Interests
Dr. Zheng majored in physics at Fudan University and then obtained his MS and PhD in Biophysics focused on electrophysiology from the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA/ISAS), Trieste, Italy. After three years postdoctoral training at the Neuroscience Department of Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM), Dr. Zheng joined the faculty at Einstein for seven years, focused on the electrophysiological and molecular mutagenesis studies of glutamate receptor in central nervous system. During that time his work extended to encompass high throughput technologies and their analytical tools. Consequently the informatics and bioinformatics field became an attractive new world for him to explore. For that reason, Dr. Zheng enrolled himself into the Computer Technology and Application (CTA) program at Columbia University and then took a position at Celera Genomics as a senior scientist to QA the company’s Bioinformatics products. In 2003, Dr. Zheng returned to AECOM to establish the Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BISR) and continues to serve as its director. He helped to transform this resource to the Research Informatics Core (RIC) of the Einstein-Montefiore Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), to drive the integration of clinical and basic science information as a major part of the foundation of translational research at the institution. Dr. Zheng currently serves as the Director of RIC. He is also the Chief Database Architect to oversee the database and software development. He plays a key role as business analyst to extract the researchers’ informatics needs and convert them into informatics requirements and proposals, that usually lead to initiation of new institutional informatics infrastructure. Dr. Zheng took intensive project management training and he is now a Project Management Certified Professional.
