New Department of Medicine Faculty Announced

This is the first installment new faculty announcements.

Sushil K. Ahlawat, M.D.

Dr. Ahlawat joins our faculty as an Assistant Professor of Medicine, in recognition of his role as a full time Gastroenterologist at Jacobi Medical Center.  He received his medical education at the Sharma Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences of the University of Rohtak in India, and subsequently had extensive training in Medicine and Gastroenterology, including residency at Our Lady of Mercy, training at the Mayo Clinic and Georgetown, where he took his training in Gastroenterology. 

Vanessa Alvarez, M.D.

Vanessa Alvarez joined us as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in September 2006 when she became a full-time attending physician in the Critical Care Medicine program at Montefiore.  She received her medical education at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, and her Internal Medicine residency training at Cabrini Medical Center (2003), which she followed with three years of fellowship in Pulmonary and then Critical Care Medicine, first at Cabrini and then at Mt. Sinai.  She is board certified in Internal Medicine and eligible in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Alpana Chandra, MBBS

Alpana Chandra joins us as an Assistant Professor.  She received her medical education at the Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi and after some post-graduate training there, came to be an intern Rush-Presbyterian, then a resident at Jacobi (2000-2002).  She then spent three years as a fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in our program and has been a full time attending physician at North Central Bronx and Jacobi since July 2005.  She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
