M. Henry Williams Jr., M.D., 83, Chief of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at Einstein from 1981 through 1994, died Sunday, September 16, 2007 near his home in Vermont, where he had retired.
In 1958, Dr. Williams, a graduate of Yale Medical School, was invited to join the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the new Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and he became director of the division in 1981. He developed an outstanding Chest Service at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, trained legions of pulmonary physicians, residents and students, and was honored as an outstanding teacher, clinician and clinical investigator. His Grand Rounds presentations were a source of pleasure and were awaited eagerly by his audiences.
He was longtime managing editor of the journal, LUNG, and served on the editorial boards of Pulmonary Perspectives, Excerpta Medica and Respiratory Times. His publications include 155 articles and 22 books, including "Clinical Applications of Cardio-Pulmonary Physiology."
