Schlair to be Residency Program Firm Leader
Dr. Sheira Schlair, Assistant Professor (General Internal Medicine), has been appointed as Firm Leader for Medical Service I in the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Dr. Schlair is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and completed her residency and Chief Residency in the Primary Care/Social Medicine Program at Montefiore before taking a fellowship in General Internal Medicine at New York University where she attained a Masters of Science in Medical Education and was on the faculty at Bellevue Hospital and Gouverneur Healthcare Services.
Dr. Schlair joined the Department of Medicine faculty in 2009 as an attending physician at the Montefiore Comprehensive Family Care Center (CFCC) teaching clinic. In addition to her activities at CFCC, she is a facilitator in training at the American Academy on Communication in Health Care.
Dr. Schlair has earned outstanding ratings as a teacher, evaluator and caregiver, earning the respect of her trainees and her colleagues. She is particularly skilled in formal evaluation procedures and has brought numerous new skills and ideas to the Internal Medicine Residency training program.
Dr. Marta Rico will step down from the role of Firm Leader to devote her efforts to full-time teaching and clinic management.
