Safyer Serving on Governor Cuomo's Transition Team

Governor-elect Andrew Cuomo recently appointed of Nirav R. Shah, MD, MPH, as New York State Commissioner of Health.
As a member of the Governor-elect's transition team, Dr. Steven Safyer, President and CEO of Montefiore Medical Center, advocated for the appointment of Dr. Shah and believes he will be a leader with vision. "[Dr. Shah's] experience reflects his expertise in healthcare system redesign for improved outcomes and efficiency, and a strong commitment to community-based care and public health--all Montefiore’s home games," said Dr. Safyer. "Though he will face economic challenges and political battles, I am confidant he will advance reform based on good medicine and sound research, thereby moving us toward a more streamlined, cost effective and coordinated system of care."
