Physician Satisfaction Surveys

Physicians’ satisfaction with their career and institution is an ongoing concern because both are potentially related to quality of patient care provided. Career satisfaction and/or dissatisfaction has important outcomes for physicians themselves, patients, nurses, their employers, and retention within specific practices. In order to obtain an in-depth assessment of the satisfaction of provider stakeholders, Montefiore's Network Performance Group collaborated with a survey vendor to develop and send a fully customized survey to the 3000+ physicians and licensed medical professionals practicing throughout its network.
The survey, conducted every 2-3 years, asks providers to give feedback about their interaction with various medical specialties throughout Montefiore Medical Center, and to rank these specialties based on their satisfaction. The survey's purpose is to allow medical and administrative leaders to engage in the improvement of the overall institution by reflecting on the interaction of its different constituents. In its last distribution, an unprecedented near-fifty percent of those surveyed responded.
Survey data is provided to medical specialty leaders throughout Montefiore to give them an idea of how their services are perceived and ranked by peers.
Data collected from the survey is being used to create a longitudinal information repository which will be used to assess how different groups of physicians feel about various aspects of Montefiore Medical Center, and to provide insight into future quality improvement initiatives.
