Nursing Initiatives
The Montefiore Medical Center nursing quality improvement program strives to continually improve the delivery, quality, efficiency, and outcome of patient care provided by nurses throughout the hospitals. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of clinical and operational performance measures, and opportunities for improvement are integrated into management practices. All quality activities are done according to Institute of Medicine (IOM)-defined standards of professional health care practices, regulatory, and licensing agencies, and support Montefiore's overall mission and strategic plan.
Falls Prevention
Montefiore Medical Center has implemented a comprehensive, multifaceted effort to decrease falls in acute care settings and inpatient units throughout the hospital.
Medication Review Sessions
Lunchtime medication review sessions are conducted regularly to raise nurses’ awareness about pharmaceutical errors and other medication-related safety issues.
Pressure Ulcer Prevention
All Montefiore nursing staff take part in training regarding assessment, intervention, measurement, location, staging, treatment, and documentation of bedsores.
Smoking Cessation Counseling
Nurses implement Montefiore's smoking cessation counseling strategy, geared particularly toward patients with chronic heart failure and acute myocardial infarction.
