Quality Improvement in Housestaff and Medical Student Training

Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine have one of the largest Internal Medicine residency programs in the country. Program leaders continually strive to improve the education and quality of care that house staff provide.

DVT Risk Assessment and Prophylaxis
Formalized training to assess and prevent deep vein thrombosis includes repetitive formal education, monitoring and supervision of trainees, a standardized form in each patient’s chart , and having senior trainees (chief residents and fellows) gather data.

Residency QI Workshops
A two-session workshop teaches second-year residents in the ambulatory care rotation how to conduct a chart review, specifically focusing on QI measures in cervical and breast cancer screening and in influenza vaccination.

Simulation Training
Simulation training provides a better, safer training environment for residents to learn to effectively perform high-level procedures under stressful situations.
