Dr. Jonathan Schwartz has an interest in chronic liver diseases and
liver transplantation, and has developed a clinical and research focus in
the multidisciplinary treatment of patients with hepatobiliary tumors. He
has participated in multicenter studies and national liver disease
consortia. In addition to publishing on various aspects of liver diseases,
he has been an author of UpToDate's liver tumor sections since 1998.
Dr. Schwartz completed his medical education at the Sackler School of
Medicine of Tel Aviv University in 1991. He was an Internal Medicine
resident at Jacobi Hospital and completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology
and Transplant Hepatology at the University of Washington. He recently
relocated to New York after spending 10 years at Oregon Health & Science
University where he served as the Medical Director of Liver Transplantation
and was a co-founder of the multidisciplinary liver tumor group.
Objectives - After attending this activity, participants will be able
to:
- Understand the epidemiology and risk factors for hepatocellular
carcinoma.
- Understand the approach to screening and diagnosis of hepatocellular
carcinoma.
- Comprehend a general approach to treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.
