Dr. Kevin D. Cooper joined CWRU and UHCMC from prior positions at the University of Michigan and the National Institutes of Health, following dermatology training at Oregon Health Sciences University and medical school al the University of Florida. He enjoys mentoring at all levels, and practicing and teaching clinical immuno-dermatology. His research interests include auto-inflammatory mechanisms of psoriasis, dermatitis, photo- injury, and cutaneous lymphoma, as well as translational medicine. An author on over 300 publications and chapters, Dr. Cooper is an inventor on multiple patents, including the first biologic approved for psoriasis. He is the recipient of multiple honorary Plenary Lectureships, including the American Academy of Dermatology Sulzberger Award, the SID Rothman Award, the British Dermatology Association's Rook Oratorship, and the Japanese Dermatology Society Dohi Award.
Dr. Cooper is active in local and national leadership. Locally, he was a founding board member of University Hospitals Medical Group (an 800 physician group) and its Operations Committee, and is currently a member of its Steering Committee. He is the elected President of the Council of Clinical Chairs at CWRU and UHCMC (2007-present) and a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee and the School of Medicine Research Committee.
Nationally, Dr. Cooper is currently President of the Association of Professors of Dermatology, Past President of the Society for Investigative Dermatology, and has chaired a number of AAD Committee and Councils, including the Scientific Assembly Committee. He has previously organized the annual meeting Programs for the APD, the AAD, the ADA, and the Symposium for the Biology of the Skin. He regularly serves on NIH Advisory Groups and NIH grant review panels.
Dr. Kevin D. Cooper is the Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and University Hospitals Case Medical Center (UHCMC) in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a Staff Physician for the Dermatology Service at the Cleveland VA Hospital. Dr. Cooper is the Director of the NIAMS Skin Diseases Research Center at CWRU, one of only six awarded in the country, allowing him to coordinate and advance skin disease research across the institutions. He also directs the UHCMC Murdough Family Center for Psoriasis, the NIAMS Psoriasis Center of Research Translation (CORT) at CWRU, and the Skin Cancer Research Institute.
After attending this activity, participants will be able to:
- Recognize clinical presentations of subtypes of CTCL
- Utilize dermatopathologic information to diagnose and classify CTCL
- Manage interdisciplinary care to provide Stage- and subtype- appropriate therapy
