Dr. Jeffrey Schnipper's research interests focus on improving the quality of healthcare delivery for general medical patients. Subject areas include preventive cardiology, inpatient diabetes care, safe and effective medication use, transitions in care, and communication among healthcare providers. The quality improvement interventions that he studies include the greater use of information systems, hospital-based pharmacists, case managers for patients with chronic diseases, and process redesign using continuous quality improvement methods.

Dr. Schipper is the Director of Clinical Research at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), an Academic Hospitalist Service Associate Physician in the Division of General Medicine at BWH, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Schnipper is a graduate of Harvard College. He received his MD from Harvard Medical School, completed a residency in internal medicine and primary care at Massachusetts General Hospital, completed a fellowship in general internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, and earned an MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health in Clinical Effectiveness.

Objectives - After attending this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Appreciate best practices in conducting quality improvement research and how they can be practically applied
  2. Identify the components of the MARQUIS toolkit designed to improve the medication reconciliation process at U.S. hospitals
  3. Quantify the effects of the MARQUIS intervention on medication reconciliation errors
  4. Understand barriers and facilitators of implementation of the toolkit
  5. Appreciate the broader implication of the MARQUIS study in terms of
  6. Electronic Health Record design, policy, regulation, and professional education

Accreditation: Albert Einstein College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
