Image: Chaim Putterman, MDThe mission of the Einstein-Montefiore Division of Rheumatology is threefold:
- To provide rheumatologic care for over one million residents of the Bronx. We run multiple clinics each week at Montefiore Hospital, Jacobi Hospital and North Central Bronx Hospital providing specialized care in acute and chronic rheumatologic disease, consultative care to primary care physicians and comprehensive care for patients with systemic lupus, and we provide consultative services for hospitalized patients. Our goal is to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.
- To educate rheumatology fellows, residents and students as well as colleagues in other medical disciplines. The best care of patients is possible only when all physicians can recognize rheumatologic disease and are aware that therapeutic modalities are available.
- To participate in the acquisition of new knowledge about rheumatologic disease. We have ongoing research programs in human lupus and in mouse models of this disease. We participate in clinical trials in lupus and in other rheumatologic diseases. We actively explore new diagnostic tests for rheumatologic diseases.
It is our strong conviction that excellence in all of these areas is crucial to our success in each. We plan to continue to integrate care, teaching and research in our division. We will continue to strengthen our focus on lupus to become a national center for innovative care in lupus and related rheumatic diseases.
