Radiology of the Kidney and Vascular Access

(In conjunction with the Radiology Faculty)

  1. Discriminant knowledge of the various imaging modalities for the kidney and urinary tract and their application in the care of patients, including the renal transplant patient.
    • Ultrasonography of the kidneys and genitourinary tract (native and transplanted kidneys);
    • CT scan of the kidneys and genitourinary tract (native and transplanted kidneys);
    • MRI/MRA of the kidneys and genitourinary tract (native and transplanted kidneys);
    • Intravenous pyelography of the kidneys and genitourinary tract.
     
  2. Radiology of hemodialysis vascular access.
    • Fistulography of arteriovenous grafts (AVG) and arteriovenous fistula (AVF);
    • Percutaneous angioplasty, stent placement, cryoballoon therapy, brachytherapy of AVGs and AVFs;
    • Thrombolysis of clotted AVGs and AVFs;
    • Placement and maintenance of tunneled and temporary double lumen dialysis catheters, including treatment of infection, dysfunction, fibrin sheath formation.
     
  3. Radiology of renal arteries
    • Doppler ultrasonography, CT scan and MRA of the renal arteries;
    • Evaluation and treatment of renal artery stenosis (angioplasty, stent placement)
    • Evaluation of renal artery dissection or aneurysms.
