Year Two

Program Tracks
Second-year fellows differentiate along the Clinical Research or Basic Science Research Track.

Clinical Training
Second-year fellows participate in ambulatory dialysis care, continuity clinic, transplant clinic, transplant rotation, vacation coverage for first-year fellows, and night and weekend call.

Outpatient Dialysis Rotation
A 9-month rotation where fellows are assigned a cohort of about 12 chronic hemodialysis patients and approximately 4 home dialysis patients to round on once weekly under the guidance of an assigned faculty mentor.

Renal Transplant Service
A 2-month rotation where fellows make initial evaluations and present the history, physical findings, assessment and plans to nephrology faculty members; and help teach and supervise rotating medical residents and medical students.

Conferences and Seminars
Second-year fellows attend and present at all ongoing conferences and seminars and attend regional and national meetings.

Scholarly Activity and Career Preparation
All fellows are encouraged and expected to engage in mentored scholarly activity, presenting at monthly research conferences, Renal Grand Rounds, Journal Club, ASN and NKF meetings, New York Society of Nephrology Fellows Night, and Montefiore Department of Medicine Research Day; and authoring case reports and review articles.
