Uriel Felsen, Kerry Murphy Received CTSA Research Awards

May 28, 2015 - BRONX, NY - The Einstein-Montefiore Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Consortium has selected two new investigators for research career development awards. These awards provide funding for junior faculty with doctoral degrees to devote the majority of their effort to clinical or translational research and training for two to three years.

This year, both awardees are members of the Department of Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases.

Uriel R. Felsen, MD

Dr. Uriel Felsen is Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Felsen's career development plan focuses on studying the implementation of HIV treatment and prevention strategies for underserved populations. He seeks to identify barriers to and facilitators of implementing an expanded HIV testing strategy in the ED, adapt an existing ED-based HIV testing strategy into a new strategy, develop a generalizable Implementation Science tool for implementing and evaluating an ED-based HIV testing strategy, and test the process. Dr. Felsen is mentored by Dr. Chinazo Cunningham and Dr. Barry Zingman.

Kerry J. Murphy, MD

Dr. Kerry Murphy is Instructor of Medicine. Her research involves determining if an intervention designed to restore the estrogen status of the female genital tract will favorably impact the mucosal immune environment of HIV-infected and uninfected menopausal women with the short-term goal of improving GT health and ultimate goal of decreasing the risk of HIV. Dr. Murphy is mentored by Dr. Betsy Herold and Dr. Marla Keller.
