Dr. Jason Adelman, Montefiore's Patient Safety Officer, along with Dr. Will Southern, Dr. Matthew Berger, Dr. Parsa Mirhaji, Dr. Clyde Schechter, and Paul Meissner have teamed up with researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital to study the impact of health Information Technology (IT) on patient safety. The study was awarded a $300,000 grant from The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Their research will examine the relationship between the number of patient records open at the time of placing an order and the risk of placing an order on the wrong patient, and will produce first-time data for health IT leaders on the risk of errors when multiple clinical records are opened simultaneously. The grant is part of $4 million funding from the United States Congress to finance AHRQ’s support for research on health IT’s impact on patient safety.
