GeriEd Program: Physician Education and Training in Geriatrics

The Einstein GeriEd Program is an education and training program to improve primary care physician’s skills and knowledge of geriatric medicine, with a special focus on older adults with complex medical and neurologic disease such as dementia, falls, delirium. The learners include internists, family physicians, hospitalists, and emergency medicine physicians, as well as residents and medical students.

Hazards of Hospitalization for Older Adults

Dr. Jacobs is interested in patient safety, clinical efficacy and quality of management issues regarding the use of anticoagulants for venous thromboembolic disease or stroke thromboprophylaxis for older adults with atrial fibrillation.

A collaborative research project with Department of Orthopedics surgery which examines the diagnosis and management of pain in the acute hip fracture patient.

Hospital Readmissions

This study examines the multiple risk factors associated with readmissions to the hospital from both long term care facilities and the community.

Health Literacy in Older Adults

This study examines health literacy, particularly regarding medication management, in older adults.

Elder Abuse Education and Training Program

This project aims to improve identification and evaluation of victims of elder abuse and neglect. Targeted learners include medical students, residents and attendings.

Comprehensive Bone Center/Osteoporosis in Older Adults

The Comprehensive Bone Center provides clinical assessment, education and training regarding osteoporosis assessment, and is a venue for clinical osteoporosis research. 

Burns and Home Safety in Older Adults

This educational and quality improvement program is designed to improve knowledge and care of older adults at risk for burns and fires.

Drs. Joe Verghese and Nir Barzilai have teamed up with Drs. Gil Atzmon and Roee Holtzer to identify interventions to keep us strong and agile into old age.

Dr. Joe Verghese's research was featured in a National Geographic cover story on the potential genetic roots of longevity.


Bogaisky's Readmission Study Receives AAMC Honorable Mention
Research conducted by Dr. Michael Bogaisky initiated a unique collaboration to identify and resolve the issues leading to high hospital readmission among the skilled nursing facility patient population.
