Educational Faculty
The successful expansion of the inpatient and outpatient training in substance abuse diagnosis and treatment received by Montefiore Internal and Family Medicine residents and by Einsetin medical students has relied on the work of a talented group of local faculty who have substantial experience as addiction-focused clinician educators.
In addition to Drs. Julia Arnsten, Melissa Stein, Sharon Parish, and Peter Selwyn, the following Einstein/Montefiore faculty are seasoned educators, experienced drug abuse clinicians, and leaders of clinical or educational initiatives at Einstein and Montefiore.
Alain Litwin, MD, MPH, MS
Brenda Chabon, PhD
Hillary Kunins, MD, MPH, MS
Kenneth Harris, MD, PhD
Research Mentors
CARE Program fellows spend approximately 60% of their time pursuing a mentored research project in drug abuse, supervised by an experienced NIDA-funded researcher. The completion of a research project is an important step towards becoming an independent investigator, and is also a requirement for the awarding of the Master of Science in Clinical Research Methods by Einstein’s Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP).
To ensure that all fellows meet this goal, a critical mass of productive researchers, including mentors with sustained records of research funding, is necessary. In addition to Drs. Julia Arnsten and Ellie Schoenbaum, the Einstein faculty includes several research mentors with expertise in drug abuse and interests ranging from health services to translational research, and senior investigators with wide-ranging expertise in drug abuse research from 3 local institutions (New York Academy of Medicine, National Development Research Institutes, and Weill Medical College of Cornell University).
