Division of Dermatology Announces New Procedural Dermatology Fellowship

David Ciocon, MD, Program Director

The Einstein/Montefiore Division of Dermatology has established a new Procedural Dermatology Fellowship Program. This one-year, ACGME-approved fellowship offers post-graduate training in cutaneous oncology, Mohs micrographic surgery, procedural dermatology, and cosmetic and laser medicine in state-of-the-art, CLIA-certified, outpatient ambulatory facilities.

Fellows complete multidisciplinary rotations with otolaryngology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery, and podiatry, and perform 1000 surgical cases, at least 500 of which are Mohs cases, and serve as clinical instructors in a resident dermatologic surgery clinic, presiding over a variety of standard excisional and nail surgery cases. They also undergo training in the use of fillers, neurotoxins, chemical peels, sclerotherapy, and lasers, tumescent liposuction, autologous fat transfer, endovenous ablation, non-invasive body contouring involving ultrasound/radiofrequency based devices, blepharoplasty, rhytidectomy, and hair transplantation. Fellows have one half day each week allocated for research time and submit manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal or deliver a presentation at a national meeting. Funding is provided for fellows to attend the annual meetings of American College of Mohs Surgery and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.

Program director Dr. David Ciocon, a graduate of Harvard University, UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical Scool, Brown University, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, has written multiple publications on surgical and non-surgical approaches to aesthetic rejuvenation. He has performed over 2000 Mohs surgeries and reconstructions, and has clinical interests in facial reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, laser-assisted tumescent liposuction, autologous fat transfer, laser medicine, and minimally invasive cosmetic dermatology.

The next fellowship position begins July 2015. Full program information is available on the Division of Dermatology website.
